Brooklyn Nets forward Tosan Evbuomwan has officially left the NBA to sign with FC Barcelona on a two-year contract running until June 30 2028. The 25 year old power forward announced his departure after three NBA seasons with the Nets Pistons Grizzlies and Knicks. Barcelona confirmed the move in a press release stating Evbuomwan will bolster their inside game under head coach Aleksander Sekulic.
What happened with Evbuomwan and the Brooklyn Nets?
Evbuomwan played 28 games for the Brooklyn Nets during his best NBA season averaging 9.5 points 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists. He joined the Nets after going undrafted in 2023 and splitting his rookie year between the Memphis Grizzlies and Detroit Pistons where he averaged 7.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in 13 games. His time with the Nets included a notable performance against the Houston Rockets on February 1 2025 at Toyota Center where he was seen on the bench alongside head coach Jordi Fernandez.
Why did Evbuomwan leave the NBA for Spain?
After being released by the New York Knicks following a five game stint last season Evbuomwan was still on the roster when the team won the NBA Cup. Despite not playing in the championship run he remained eligible for a ring though it remains uncertain if the Knicks will award him one. His decision to leave the NBA came after limited opportunities and a desire to secure a stable role overseas where he can continue developing as a 2.03m power forward.
