The Brooklyn Nets' official youth program is expanding its footprint across the borough with three new community locations set to open in 2027. Brooklyn Basketball, the youth initiative of the Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty, announced the major expansion which includes new high school programming and competitive leagues. This news comes as the Nets prepare for their next preseason game, looking to build on a 3-1 exhibition record that includes a 124-90 win over the Charlotte Hornets on October 6.

The program will open new centers in Greenpoint, Bushwick, and Gowanus in 2027. These spots will host after-school clubs, camps, clinics, and year-round community events. They're designed to bring programming directly into neighborhoods, creating more entry points for families.

Brooklyn Basketball already impacts over 50,000 young people each year through free clinics in more than 250 NYC schools. Its first Training Center in Downtown Brooklyn, opened in September 2025, has welcomed over 16,000 visitors. Marissa Shorenstein, Chief Operating Officer of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, said the program's goal is to expand access. "This expansion reflects our long-term commitment to the community," Shorenstein stated.

A progressive curriculum developed with the Nets and Liberty forms the program's core. Athletes advance through four development levels in a "Player Pathway," focusing on skill growth and decision-making rather than just age. USA Basketball-certified coaches use game-based instruction to build confident players.

The emphasis extends beyond the court to character development, stressing a growth mindset and accountability. A new Performance Track starting this fall at the Downtown Brooklyn center will offer three weekly sessions focused on skill drills, team practice, and Saturday game days. A Skills Track for fundamentals remains available.

This community investment unfolds alongside the team's on-court preparations. The Nets recently dropped a high-scoring preseason contest, falling 144-128 to the Miami Heat on October 14. They had previously secured wins against the Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers.

Their next test is a rematch against the Charlotte Hornets at home on October 21. Fans can track the team's progress through the full preseason slate on our schedule page. The parallel growth of the professional team and its youth foundation highlights the organization's broader commitment to Brooklyn basketball at every level.

It significantly increases physical access to quality coaching and facilities. By placing centers in more neighborhoods, the program reduces geographic and financial barriers for young athletes. The addition of high school programming and a competitive league structure also creates a clearer pathway for serious player development.

This move builds a deeper connection between the NBA franchise and its local community. It ensures the Nets' influence helps cultivate the next generation of talent and fans right in their own backyard.
