The Nets took Bruce Campbell, a forward, with the 153rd overall pick in the 1978 NBA Draft. He played four seasons at Providence but never made the Nets’ roster. Four years later, the Nets selected Rudy Williams, another forward, with the 186th overall pick in the 1981 NBA Draft. Like Campbell, Williams spent four years at Providence but never played for Brooklyn.
Why Providence College didn’t stick with Brooklyn Nets
Providence has sent only two players to the Nets’ draft board in over four decades. Neither Campbell nor Williams logged a single minute in a Nets uniform. Both were deep cuts in their respective drafts, taken in rounds where roster spots were already spoken for. The Nets’ front office has since focused on other pipelines for talent, including trades and undrafted free agents.
The Nets’ last result was a 136-101 loss to the Toronto Raptors on April 12, 2026, extending their five-game losing streak to five straight defeats. They’ve now dropped their last five in a row, a slump that’s overshadowed even minor draft footnotes like Campbell and Williams.
