Brooklyn Nets' Chaney Johnson Seeks Standard NBA Contract
Brooklyn Nets forward Chaney Johnson is working to earn a standard NBA contract after a solid summer league performance. Johnson averaged 13.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game in the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer League.
Johnson, 24, went undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft after a solid college career that took him from Alabama-Huntsville university to the University of Auburn. He is currently on a Two-Way contract with the Nets, but if he develops enough, he could find himself getting a standard NBA deal soon.
"If they (the coaching staff) see you being a certain type of player and you try your best to be that type of player they see you as, payment is going to come," Johnson said during an interview with NetsDaily's Connor Long on "The Brooklyn Boys" podcast.
Johnson is currently on a Two-Way deal with the Nets, which means he will likely be spending the majority of next season with the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn's G League affiliate. However, there are plenty of ways that Johnson could find himself getting more minutes at the NBA level, especially if he continues to work as hard as he has been up to this point in his career.
What comes next?
Johnson's next opportunity to showcase his skills will come in the upcoming season, where he will look to build on his summer league performance and earn more minutes at the NBA level. With the Nets looking to rebuild and develop young players, Johnson's hard work and dedication could pay off in the form of a standard NBA contract.
Recent form
The Brooklyn Nets have struggled in recent form, losing the last 5 games, including a 136-101 defeat to the Toronto Raptors on April 12, 2026. However, with Johnson and other young players on the roster, the team is looking to the future and building a strong foundation for the upcoming season.
A look ahead
As the Brooklyn Nets look to rebuild and develop young players, Chaney Johnson will be one to watch. With his hard work and dedication, he could find himself earning a standard NBA contract and becoming a key player for the team in the future.
